Proverbs 16:26 The thought of hunger keeps the workers
working so that they can eat.
Wisdom thinks ahead to tomorrow. Wisdom lays
her trust in the Lord and works hard in her present circumstances. Wisdom plans
for the future. There was a period in my
life where I was working with recovering addicts. We taught them basic life skills that seemed
to have been lost somewhere along the way. Setting an alarm clock and getting
up. Keeping appointments. Making short term plans and long term goals. Somehow,
they had lost these skills after the pursuit of “The Moment”. Living for the
next score and the next high, any kind of long term- anything- was not existent.
Farmers plant and water, and weed and
wait. They watch the storms roll in and
they see the pests that threaten their crops.
Up early and falling into bed late at night. Yet, they keep at it, a
goal in mind and a purpose in their everyday. Wisdom plans and keeps their
hands busy and healthy while the plans of the Lord continue energizing them. For entire seasons they see nothing as a visible sign of their work, with the magic happening deep beneath the soil. But they keep on, trusting in the enfolding.
We are all farmers, in a way. Planting our dreams and watering them. Keeping away the pests that threaten with our eyes on the harvest. Not seeing fruit, but knowing that things are still happening. Each day, walking in Wisdom’s way, we work and sow into our dreams with the Lord, investing time and treasure in relationship with Him. Just as we work towards our earthly future, we invest in our eternity, through Jesus Christ.

What about you? Are there dreams that have lied dormant for
too long? Have you given up on working
them and tilling the soil around them? Have
pests come and robbed you of your harvest? Dream again. I think those dreams are still there, they
just require your time ,attention and patience.
